Frequently Asked Questions
Can I swap one type of fish or shellfish for another?
Often, yes. Fish with a similar texture and thickness usually behave the same way: firm white fish such as cod, haddock or tilapia can replace one another, and shrimp can stand in for langostino or prawns. Thicker or thinner cuts need adjusted cooking time, so check doneness rather than relying on the clock alone.
How do I know when seafood is cooked?
Use an instant-read thermometer. Fish is generally cooked at an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C), and shrimp turn opaque and pink and curl into a loose C shape. Times in recipes are estimates, since pans, grills and ovens vary.
How accurate are the nutrition estimates?
They are approximate. Values depend on the brands, portion sizes and substitutions you use, so treat them as a general guide rather than medical or dietary advice.
What if I have a food allergy?
Fish and shellfish are common allergens, and sauces, stocks and packaged ingredients can contain hidden ones. Always check ingredient labels and use your own judgment for your household.
How do I report an error in a recipe?
Send us a message through the form above with the recipe title or link and a short description of the problem. We review reports and update the recipe when a correction is needed.
Can I share or reuse your recipes and photos?
You are welcome to link to any recipe or share it on social media with credit and a link back to Seafood Portal. Please do not republish full recipes, text or images elsewhere without permission — write to us if you would like to discuss it.
