Ingredients:
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (12g)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder (4g)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (3g)
- 1 large egg (approx. 50g)
- 3/4 cup (180ml) milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5ml)
- 12 Oreo cookies (about 140g)
- Vegetable oil, for frying (about 4 cups / 950ml)
- Powdered sugar (icing sugar)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Pour vegetable oil into a deep fryer or large pot. Heat over medium-high heat until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C). Maintain this temperature throughout the frying process.
- Dip each Oreo cookie into the batter, ensuring it's fully coated. Let any excess batter drip off.
- Carefully place 2-3 battered Oreos into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and puffy.
- Remove the fried Oreos with a slotted spoon or spider strainer and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- Let the Oreos cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar (if desired). Serve immediately.
