Ingredients:

  • 1 lb fresh white fish (such as cod, halibut, or snapper), skinless, diced into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (approximately 4-6 limes)
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice (about 1 orange)
  • 1/2 medium red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, finely diced (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1 cup diced cucumber
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: 1 avocado, diced, for garnish
  • Tortilla chips or plantain chips for serving

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the fish under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Dice the fish into 1/2-inch pieces.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced fish with lime and orange juice. Ensure all fish pieces are submerged, then cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. While the fish is marinating, finely chop the red onion, jalapeño, and cucumber.
  4. After 30 minutes, check the fish; it should appear opaque. Add the chopped vegetables and cilantro to the bowl. Mix gently.
  5. Season with salt to taste and gently fold to combine.
  6. Place ceviche into serving bowls, garnishing with diced avocado if desired. Serve chilled with tortilla or plantain chips on the side.
