Ingredients:
- 4 slices of sourdough bread (2 oz each, or 56 g)
- 4 oz (about 113 g) sharp cheddar cheese, grated
- 4 oz (about 113 g) Gruyère cheese, grated
- 2 tablespoons (30 g) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 clove of garlic, minced (optional)
- Tomato soup or pickle slices (optional)
Instructions:
- Mix butter and minced garlic in a bowl until combined.
- Preheat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Spread garlic butter generously on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place two slices, buttered-side down, in the skillet.
- Evenly layer cheddar and Gruyère on top of each slice.
- Top with remaining slices of bread, buttered-side up.
- Cook for 3-5 minutes until golden brown; check with a spatula.
- Carefully flip over and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until cheese is melted and bread is crispy.
- Remove from heat and let cool for a minute, then slice and serve.
