Ingredients:
- 5 oz (142g) canned tuna in water, drained well
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) finely chopped celery
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) finely chopped red onion
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) fresh dill, chopped
- ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) lemon juice
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2 slices sourdough bread
- 2 tablespoons (30g) butter, softened
- 2-3 slices sharp cheddar cheese (about 2 oz / 57g)
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion, dill, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly with a fork until well combined. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Generously butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in a skillet or griddle pan over medium heat.
- Top the bread with the cheddar cheese slices, followed by the prepared tuna salad.
- Place the second slice of bread on top of the tuna salad, butter-side up.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted and gooey. Gently press down on the sandwich with a spatula while cooking to ensure even browning and melting.
- Remove the sandwich from the skillet and cut it in half. Serve immediately. Enjoy your tuna melt sandwich recipe!
