Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups (300g) hot cooked white rice
  • 3 imitation crab meat sticks (approx. 3 oz/85g)
  • 1 sheet sushi nori seaweed
  • 1 slice processed cheese
  • 2 slices pink kamaboko (Japanese fish cake)
  • 1 small egg, whisked
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup spinach leaves
  • 1 small carrot
  • Dry spaghetti noodles

Instructions:

  1. Wrap portions of hot rice in plastic wrap, shaping them into Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel’s rounded cat heads.
  2. Cut nori seaweed into small shapes for eyes and whiskers. Cut omelet or kamaboko for Hello Kitty's nose. Attach to rice heads.
  3. Wrap more rice in plastic wrap, shaping it into a rounded trapezoid for Hello Kitty's body.
  4. Separate the red and white layers of the crab sticks. Use the red layer to create the outer layer of Hello Kitty's kimono. Use the white layer to create the inner layer.
  5. Repeat step 3 for Dear Daniel's body.
  6. Use spinach leaves to create the outer layer of Dear Daniel's kimono. Use the white layer of the crab sticks to create the inner layer.
  7. Cut the cheese slice in half. Cut Hello Kitty's crown and kamaboko jewels/fan. Cut Dear Daniel's hat/fan; top the hat with nori.
  8. Arrange Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel in the bento box.
  9. Use spaghetti noodles to pin fans, crown, and hat onto the characters.
  10. Cut carrots into sakura flowers and kamaboko into small petals.
  11. Top bento box with carrot flowers and kamaboko petals. Add your child's favorite side dishes.
