Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups (420g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons / 7g) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon (6g) granulated sugar
- 1 ¼ cup (300ml) warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
- ¼ cup (60ml) melted unsalted butter, cooled slightly
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
- 6-8 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 tablespoons)
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: ½ cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese, or other hard, flavourful cheese
Instructions:
- Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let stand until foamy (5-10 minutes).
- In a stand mixer (or large bowl), combine flour, salt, yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms (5-7 minutes in a mixer, 8-10 minutes by hand).
- Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1-1.5 hours).
- While the dough rises, melt butter in a small saucepan. Add minced garlic, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer briefly (1-2 minutes) to infuse the butter with garlic flavor. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into small, equal-sized balls (about 1-1.5 inch diameter). Dip each ball into the garlic butter, ensuring it's well coated.
- Arrange the garlic butter-coated dough balls in the prepared springform pan or skillet, layering them to create a pull-apart effect. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, if using.
- Cover the assembled bread and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Let the bread cool for a few minutes before serving. Pull apart the individual pieces and enjoy!
