Ingredients:

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup beer (lager or ale)
  • 1 large egg
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Whisk in the beer and egg until smooth. Chill the batter in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  4. In a deep pot, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dip each shrimp into the chilled batter, ensuring they are well-coated.
  6. Carefully add battered shrimp to the hot oil in batches and fry for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Use a slotted spoon to remove shrimp and place on paper towels to drain.
  8. Serve the shrimp hot with your choice of dipping sauce.
